There were a fleet of UFOS hovering precariously in the air. They’d appeared out of nowhere with no advance warning, their ships large enough to cause solar eclipses over entire cities worldwide. Despite their intimidating presence, their behavior wasn’t what anybody expected.
Unlike typical Alien Invasion movies, these UFOs didn’t hang around typical national landmarks, ignoring them completely, preferring instead to hover over inconspicuous areas, empty fields devoid of use or solitary houses far removed from any sphere of influence.
There was a concentrated burst of fire over these areas, a brief flash of light, too faint to see properly without proper photocapture technology, and then they left without further incident.
The populace at large felt no overwhelming dread, wondering what the big tizzy was about.
Yet, the resulting response in government and businesses fields was nothing short of panic, much to the confusion of the public, who saw nothing nefarious from the Invaders’ intent.
It wasn’t until much later that it was revealed that the ONEs had deliberately chosen the targets of the people who REALLY ran the world without being noticed, and had conspicuously taken them out with pin-point accuracy. Not people who pulled the levers of influence in society, but people who dealt with the invisible jobs that no one thought was serious until they were faced with their sudden absence. Jobs that there were no replacements for.
They knew exactly who to hit.
